了解某种组织的正常结构和功能是进一步了解该种组织病变的基础。当本文作者着手研究小鼠淋巴造血系统肿瘤〈包括白血病和淋巴瘤〉的病理学问题时发现:有关小鼠淋巴造血系统的正常结构和功能问题的观察不多。他希望把小鼠淋巴造血系统的正常解剖学、组织学以及细胞学中某些问题的探索当作第一步工作。因此首先进行了小鼠淋巴结的部位分布、数目和大小的观察。

717 lymph nodes of 34 inbred mice(SWR,18 and AKR,16)have been dissected and observed grossly and microscopically in detail from 23 locations of the whole body,including superficial and deep cervical(bilateral),thoracic,axillary(bilateral),brachial(bilateral),pancreatic,lesser curvature of the stomach,renal(bilateral)mesenteric,in-guinal(bilateral),lumbar(bilateral),caudal,sciatic(bilateral)and the popliteal space(bilateral).Generally there is only one lymph node in each location,however there may be a variation in number from 1--4.The length of the normal lymph node is mostly within 4 mm except the mesenteric,which is above 10 mm.It was found that the loca-tion and distribution of lymph node in mice closely resembles other mammals.
