ARGENTAFFINE CELLS IN THE DIGESTIVE TRACTS OF MOUSE AND RAT

序言消化管的上皮細胞由於它的基底部具有嗜銀性颗粒而被命名爲嗜銀細胞(Argen-taffine cell)也叫腸嗜鉻細胞(Enterochromaffine’cell)或基底顆粒細胞(Basal gra-nular cell),是組織學者所熟知的結構。過去八十年間,曾就它的起源、分怖、形熊、颗粒的化學性質、功能等方面,在脊椎動物裏,特别是哺乳類積累了不少的文献。但是直到今天對它的了解還很不够,尤其對它的功能還沒有一致的意見。

Mouse embryos 11-19 days of vaginal plug age and mice of different ages were used for the study of the development and distribution of the argentaffine cells in the digestive tracts.Rats,made anaemic by bleeding,were used for the study of the effect of anaemia on argentaffine cells.These cells were stained by the ammoniacal silver and protargol methods.Argentaffine cells first appeared in duodenum of 16-days mouse embryo.Their number increased gradually.In newborn mice the cells possessed all the characteristics found in the mature animal.At 50 days of age their number reached that of the adult level.Argentaffine cells were found to be most numerous in the fundic region.Their number decreased in the following order:duodenum,caecum,large intestine,middle 1/3 and lastly caudal 1/3 of the small intestine.Fundic argentaffine cells in rat and mouse can only be shown by protargol method.By ammoniacal silver method the number of argentaffine cells was found to decrease conspicuously in the anaemic rats.Their number returned to normal 15 days after recovery.On the other hand,the protragol method,with or without secondary reducer,showed no decrease of argentaffine cells.The author suggested,therefore,that in anaemia there may be no actual decrease of the number of argentaffine cells,and the decrease revealed by the ammoniacal silver method may be due to change of property of the argentaffine granules.No evidence of relationships between goblet and argentaffine cells was found.
