In the early 1980s,the Thatcher government was faced with several choices in planning the future British nuclear deterrent;however, because of military, economic, political, and diplomatic factors and the US-UK alliance system, the British government reached an agreement with the United States about the TridentⅠmissile purchase. The arms sale of the Trident missiles encountered little restriction with intense commercial atmosphere, and the Anglo-American nuclear relation carried the characteristics of both control and autonomy. That was due to political trust, strength symmetry, and mutual benefits between the two countries.
