David B.Audretsch and David J.Teece are representative scholars to take the lead in studying economic growth and microeconomic resource allocation mechanisms from the perspective of innovation and entrepreneurship, and their research are theoretically self-contained.In addition to the framework emphasized by mainstream economics, under which physical capital and exogenous technological progress drive economic growth, the two scholars added entrepreneurial capital as a production factor into the production function to explain the output differences across regions and countries. They tried to shift the dominance of market resource allocation from the price system to innovative enterprises with dynamic capabilities, providing a solid microeconomic theoretical foundation for the development of innovative economies, and elevating the importance of start-ups and entrepreneurship to economic growth to a new level. This article respectively introduces the birth background, theoretical framework and theoretical contributions of David B.Audretsch’s entrepreneurial capital economic growth theory, knowledge spillover entrepreneurship theory and David J.Teece’s dynamic capabilities as management systems theory.By combing and reviewing the theories of the two scholars, this article helps domestic scholars to dialectically examine the necessity of China’s building an entrepreneurial society and its positive effect on the long-term sustainable development of China’s economy.
