On Tan Xian’s Critical Method of Explaining Ci by Fu and Poetry

Tan Xian,a ci scholar in the late qing dynasty,used the critical method of interpreting ci by means of poetry to communicate the relationship between fu and ci,poetics and ci to elucidate his ci theory,which embodies the integration of different literary styles.Tan Xian,in his comments on ci,interprets ci with fu,showing the similarities between ci style and ci fu in terms of expression methods and reflection content.Tan Xian compares the theme,style,artistic conception and practice of his poems to show the commonality of ci and poetics.Tan Xian’s critical method of interpreting ci poetry reflects the view of the school of ci poetry in Changzhou,which has important significance in ci studies.
