翻译与天津城市形象建构——《今晚报》英译版的话语研究

The Image of Tianjin as Constructed in Translation——A Discourse Approach to the English Version of Jin Wan Bao

城市形象对于一个城市的国际化发展具有重要意义,是一个城市文化软实力的集中体现。本文以话语建构论为依托,结合《今晚报》英译版,从翻译议程设置、标题译写及互文话语翻译等角度探讨了天津国际形象的建构问题。研究发现,《今晚报》英译版将天津建构为一个生活祥和、科技进步、经济发展态势良好、国际合作环境便利的开放、包容的现代化都市。天津国际形象的建构是报社和译者团队在特定社会背景下发挥其机构性和主体性的过程。从话语研究视角出发,结合翻译探讨城市国际形象的建构问题,具有较大的应用潜力,可为中国城市的国际化发展提供智力支持。

This article,applying an approach developed from discourse studies,examines the international image of Tianjin constructed in the English version of Jin Wan Bao.A detailed text analysis reveals that Tianjin is discursively constructed as an inclusive and modern city with peaceful civil life,advanced science and technology and convenient international cooperation environment.It is argued,from the perspective of discourse studies,that the image of Tianjin is a product produced out of the patron’s institutionalized ideology and the translators’orientation.It is hoped that,by doing this research,a transdisciplinary study of translation and discourse studies will benefit both of the disciplines.
