A Supplementary Explanation of “Fuqiu(俘囚)”

《生經·舅甥經》"俘囚酒瓶,受骨而去"之"俘囚",解者紛如;或謂當爲"孚因"之誤。"俘",本或作"孚",有急速、迅疾義。"俘""孚"以同音相通,均應讀爲、。也就是説,在表示急速、迅疾這一義位時,譯經多用"孚",亦可作"俘"。"因"則爲介詞,用來引介對象,表示憑藉。從佛教類書、佛典注釋書及譯經對《生經》此例的摘引、編譯或改寫,可以略窺"因"字之義。

Previous scholars have many explanations for the"Fuqiu(俘囚)"in the sentence of"Fuqiu Pingjiu Shougu Er Qu(俘囚酒瓶,受骨而去)"from Shengjing Jiushengjing(《生經·舅甥經》)."Fuqiu(俘囚)"should be a wrong word of"Fuyin(孚因)"."Fu(俘)"is supposed to be"Fu(孚)",which means"rapid"."Fu(俘)"and"Fu(孚)"are used interchangeably,because of the same pronunciation,so they should be read as"Fu()"or"Fu()".That is to say,when expressing the meaning of"fast"and"rapid,"Fu(孚)"and"Fu(俘)"are often found in the Chinese translated Buddhist scriptures."Yin(因)"is a preposition,used to introduce the object,which means"depending on".And the meaning of the word"Yin(因)"can be discovered from the category books and explanatory notes of the Chinese translated Buddhist scriptures,it can also be found from the quotation,compilation or rewriting of this example(in Shengjing)in the Chinese translated Buddhist scriptures.
