A Water-soluble glucan was isolated from the roots of the alkaline aqueous extractof Astragalus mongholicus.Its mean molecular weight was estimated to be 5×10~4.Methylation analysis,periodate oxidation,Smith degradation and partial hydrolysisshowed that it is a(1→4)linkedα-D-glucan with glucosyl side chains attached to 6-Oof the glucosyl residues of the main chain(3).
