A Comparative Study of the Kimura Kenkado Manuscript and the Tokugawa Manuscript of Records of Lacquer Coating and Decoration

作者逐一比较传世《髹饰录》两种抄本装潢繁简,流传有绪无绪,封面与各页择字不一及用古字或新字,官府流出或民间赠送等,推断德川本抄自蒹葭堂本,在蒹葭堂抄本之后问世。蒹葭堂抄本当为全世界至今流传《髹饰录》各种抄本、解说本、摘译本的母本。

The author compares the two manuscript versions of Records of Lacquer Coating and Decoration from the perspectives of bookbinding,circulation,cover,font,and origin(an official disposal or a private gift),and concludes that the Kimura Kenkado manuscript appeared earlier than the Tokugawa manuscript and that the latter is copied from the former.The Kimura Kenkado manuscript deserves the title of"the parent"of various copies,annotated copies and selected translations of Records of Lacquer Coating and Decoration in circulation in the world today.The author believes that the scientific detection of the paper and ink marks of the two manuscripts conducted by the Tokyo National Museum will be the strong support for her textual study.
