王晫《行役日记》所见赠书考

Research on the Gift Books in Xing Yi Ri Ji by Wang Zhuo

王晫为清初浙江杭州著名的出版家,编(撰)刻有《今世说》《檀几丛书》《文津》等传世,在当时士林颇负盛名。康熙十三年九月,王晫为其亡父征求志墓之文,乘船遍访名士,前后历时一个月。王晫《行役日记》即是对此行之实录。据日记载,王晫所至诗文、图书酬答不断:约获得33种(部)赠书;赠书者共18位;所赠多为赠者自著、自编之书,而且均为刻本。从中可以看出,明末清初江南士人交游普遍以书为礼,而造成这一现象的主要原因有:其一,江南图书出版业发达;其二,江南水路交通非常方便。至于王晫一年受赠图书的数量,我们据他专门为此设立的"量书尺"亦可大致推算出:约有120册,约为60部(每部两册)。

Wang Zhuo is a famous publisher in Hangzhou in the early Qing Dynasty with well-known works of Jin Shi Shuo,Tan Ji Cong Shu,Wen Jin.Wang has searched epitaphs for his deceased father since the September,1674,and visited many scholars and personages by boat.Xing Yi Ri Ji is the record on the whole trip,according to which that during the trip Wang constantly received gifts of books and poetry from 18contributors.Most of the books were block-printed editions written or edited by the contributors.Hence we could tell that the Jiangnan literati in the early Qing Dynasty tended to make friends by giving books.One reason is that the book publishing industry in Jiangnan was advanced;the second reason is that the water and land transport in Jiangnan was quite convenient.In terms of the total number of the whole year that Wang Zhuo had received,according to“the ruler for measuring books”that designed exclusively for him,the number could be calculated as 120books.
