In the inspection of spherical tanks with over design life, the conventional inspection methods could not meet the requirements. Acoustic emission inspection could preliminarily check the location of the defect, and determine the hazard of the defect based on the degree of defect activity. Finally, the purpose of eliminating hidden dangers, realizing safe production and optimizing economic benefits was achieved.
