西方传教士在十九世纪早期开始创办中文报刊。这些报刊或以传播宗教为主,或综合性地传播西方文化。借助小说宣传宗教与西学,是传教士中文报刊的重要策略。这一策略也带来了中国小说传播方式的新变化。

Western missionaries began to publish Chinese newspapers and periodicals in the early 19th century.These newspapers and periodicals mainly disseminated religion,or comprehensively disseminated Western culture.It was also an important strategy for missionaries to propagate religion and Western learning through novels.This strategy also brought about new changes in the mode of transmission of Chinese novels.
