Tree gap is a canopy opening caused by the death of one or more trees,which is the main disturbance form of many forest systems in the world. Gaps play an important role in forest ecosystem,which helps to protect biodiversity and soil diversity,affect nutrient cycling,and maintain complex forest structure in late succession. Based on the description of gap dynamics and gap ecology, this paper emphasizes that gap influences the growth and development of forest ecosystem by affecting the microenvironment in forest ecosystem.This can provide a scientific basis for forest managers and help them to manage forest ecosystem more scientifically and accurately.
