French film critic AndréBazin published three review articles on Letter from Siberia in 1958.He believes that Chris Marker’s work is"an essay recorded through a movie"in which the images and the off-screen commentaries form a dialectical relationship.Such viewpoints have caused a series of reflections by film theorists on"film-essai"after the death of the author,such as subjectivity in movies and horizontal montages of voiceovers and images.These thoughts also have many enlightening effects on the studies of Marker’s films.
