Me and Mr.Wu Penggao—the Excerpts of Yan Xiechen’s Memory of My Experience

吴鹏高(1897—1965),上海嘉定人,先后在南翔公学任校董、中华珐琅厂任董事。抗日战争全面爆发后,吴鹏高与费茂泉等在西南大后方开办大兴面粉厂。上海解放后,被聘为华东区百货公司副经理。吴鹏高热心经营地方公益事业,如振德、育婴两堂;时疫医院;红十字会等慈善事业,无不乐于赞助。本文选自严爕臣自传《记叙我经历的回忆》(补订于1994年,未刊稿)并加以注释,讲述吴鹏高与作者的翁婿之缘和知遇之恩。

As a native of Jiading District,Wu Penggao(1897—1965)served successively as the member of Trustee Board of Nanxiang Public School and Director of China Enamel Factory.After the outbreak of the War of Resistance of Japan,Wu and Fei Maoquan established Daxing Flour Mill in the southwest area under KMT rule and after the liberation of Shanghai,he was employed as the Deputy Manager of a department store.Wu was enthusiastic about local public welfare undertakings and sponsored many institutions.This essay is selected from the autobiography of Yan Xiechen Memory of My Experience(last modified in 1994,unpublished)with annotation,telling the stories between the two and the gratitude of the author for rece iving help and encouragement from his father-in-law Wu Penggao.
