In recent years, the literary creation by the Jewish refugees during their exile in Shanghai began to obtain academic attention. This essay focuses on the poems created by the then Jewish exiles, using Zygmunt Bauman’s theory of“stranger”to analyze the representation of their identity reflected in these poems.Driven from Europe as strangers and fled to Shanghai again as strangers, these exiles were trapped in the intermediate dilemma created by Bauman’s modernity with selective affinity for holocaust all the time, reflecting the tension between the identity of stranger and modernity.
