The Overview of the New Learning Works in Shanghai in the Late Qing Dynasty

上海开埠以后,一跃而为"五洲万国莫不知地球上有此"的国际都市,经济繁荣,新旧文化交相辉映,新学著作数量激增,几于传统"四部"外另立一部。本文试从新学与上海本地文化互相作用的角度出发,从学风、著作者、开创性等方面探讨近代上海新学著述的整体面貌与特色。

After opening as a commercial port in 1843,Shanghai became a cosmopolis with a booming economy,where the modern culture and the traditional one added to each other’s radiance.The works of new learning also surged in quantity.Based on the interaction between the new learning and the local culture of Shanghai,the essay attempts to discuss the overall features and characteristics of these new learning works in modern Shanghai from the aspects of their study style,authors and originality.
