杜甫“早充观国宾”当为开元十八、十九年前后——由太学获监举参加科考事考辨

On whether Du Fu’sline“Acting as the State Guest in the Youth” happened in 18th or 19th Year of Kaiyuan Reign:on the Event where Du Fu was Recommended by the Proctor in the Imperial College to Take the Imperial Examination

关于杜诗"早充观国宾",注者一致认为是指开元二十三年前后赴乡贡之事。但此说仍存在若干疑点,如"少年"的年龄,和王翰、李邕交往的时间,"早充观国宾"和"忤下考功第"时的不同境遇,以及他"同学少年""同学翁"的来历等。从这些疑点看,作开元十三年至十九年间在东都入太学及由监举参加科考解更为合理。这样来看,杜甫一生曾参加过两次进士考试,且入过太学。

As to Du Fu’s line"acting as the state guest in the youth",commentators all agree that it refers to taking part in the triennial examination around the 23 rd year of Kaiyuan Reign.However,there are still some doubts about this hypothesis,such as the age of that young man,the time of association with Wang Han and Li Yong,the different circumstances in"acting as the state guest in the youth"and"failing to pass the examination",and the origin of"classmates and the young"and"getting ridiculed by classmates"and so on.All those doubts suggest that Du Fu studied at the Imperial College and was recommended by the proctor to take part in the Imperial Examination in Luo Yang from the 13 th year to the 19 th year of Kaiyuan Reign.Judging from this,Du Fu has taken the Imperial Examination twice in his life,and did enter the Imperial College.
