Bamboo tray is a type of salt tray made from woven bamboo strips used to boil brine or seawater for salt production.Cast iron tray is a large iron vessel composed of multiple pieces, used exclusively for salt production in the eastern coastal regions of China. Both of these methods have traditional characteristics of ancient Chinese sea salt production.According to historical records, bamboo tray salt production has been popular in the southeastern coastal regions since the Eastern Jin dynasty, while cast iron tray salt production has been primarily used in the eastern coastal regions since the Song and Yuan dynasties, roughly divided by the Qiantang River.Through the analysis of recent archaeological discoveries related to salt production in coastal regions,it can be traced back to the Neolithic Period in the southeasterm coastal region, with lttle change from prehistoric times to modern times.Cast iron tray salt production may have originated in the late Northern Dynasties period of the eastern coastal region, and was already in use in salt fields in Tianjin and Hebei during the Sui and Tang Dynasties, with its design inspired by the large bronze salt pan used during the Warring States and Han Dynasty Period.
