Combining evidences from the inscriptions on Qingzhi Mirrors with Panchi patterns during early Western Han and the practice and results of the political system during early Han dynasty,we infer that Qingzhi Mirrors with the"che"character appeared no earlier than the reform of officials selection system by Emperor Wen of Han.While Zhaoming Mirrors, which derived from Qingzhi Mirrors with Panchi patterns, were probably ordered by intellectuals who failed in becoming officials,Zhaoming Mirros were used by those intellectuals to express their resentments to those in power. The prevalence of Zhaoming Mirrors likely began right after the conference of salt and iron.
