学而优则仕,仕而后学失?——以中国会计学术领军人才为例

Leading Scholars Becoming Officials,Scholarship Lost from Being Officials?An Analysis of the Academic Records of the Members in the National Accounting Leading Talents Training Program

学术影响力对大学发展乃至学者发展都至关重要,我们看到越来越多的优秀学者在转向行政化。那么,这种行政化跟学术影响力之间的关系如何?我们以2005~2017年入选会计学术领军人才项目的学者为样本,研究行政化与学者学术影响力的关系。研究发现:学术影响力对行政晋升有显著的正向影响,"学而优则仕"在高校普遍存在,并且,越是在"211工程"高校及以上的学校,这种现象越明显;行政晋升将导致学者学术影响力显著下降,具体而言,晋升为副院长及以上职位平均将使论文年度被引量下降27.956次,行政晋升后,学者的年均论文发表数也有较为显著的下滑。进一步研究发现,科研时间减少是学者行政晋升后学术力下降的重要原因。这种"学而优则仕,仕而后学失"很值得我们在未来的政策实施、师资培养中给予足够的重视。

Academic influence is instrumental for the reputations of both researchers and universities that host them.In China,there is a clear tendency for leading scholars to become administrative officials and the switch from the academic track to the administrative track is often viewed as a promotion.Will this promotion help them to keep their academic influence in the post-promotion period?We take a sample of 174 members selected into the National Accounting Leading Talents Training Program from 2005 to 2017 to examine the effect of the the promotion on academic influence of these scholars.Our findings are summarized as follows.Strong academic influence is the most important determinant of the promotion,confirming the olding Chinese saying that"Scholarship is conducive to becoming official".This effect is particularly strong in universities designated in the category of"211 Project"or"985 Project".However,academic influence of these administrative scholars decrease significantly in the post-promotion period.Specifically,promotion to the position of associate dean or above reduces these administrative scholars’annual amount of citation by 27.96 on average.In addition,these scholars publish significantly fewer papers in the post-promotion period.Further investigation reveals that administrative work deprives of research time available to these administrative scholars,which contributes to the decline of academic influence that they used to have.These results suggest the conflicting roles of scholarship and administration and are useful for revising existing policies or making new policies that account for the adverse effect of administrative work on scholarship.
