在实践中求希望:晚清留美学生的学习、实践与爱国精神

Hope in Practice:Study,Practice and Patriotism of the Students Studying in the United States in the Late Qing Dynasty

晚清早期留美学生的派遣,是多方综合作用的结果。尽管后世多为其中途而废感到惋惜,但是事实上,这场留美学生运动并不是全然失败。这些留美学生在回国后,尽管也曾遭遇一系列的不如意,但是,基本上都迅速适应了近代中国特殊的国情,并积极投身于具体实践,以在美国所学的科学知识和先进技术报效祖国,作出巨大贡献,赢得了中外一致的赞扬。之所以能够做到此点,从根本上讲,都是与留美学生始终如一的爱国精神密不可分的。文章从留美学生的派遣目的、学习及其问题、归国后实践与抱负等方面入手,拟从留美学生的爱国精神角度,对之进行一种尝试性考察。

The early dispatch of students to the United States in the late Qing Dynasty was the result of the comprehensive action involved many parties.Although in some way it was abandoned,it did not fail.After returning,most of the students adapted to China quickly,and actively devoted themselves to patriotic practices.They made great contributions and won unanimous praise from home and abroad.Their success is inseparable from their patriotism.The paper discuses the purpose of students to the United States,their learning and difficulties,their patriotic practice after returning,and tries to conduct a tentative investigation from the perspective of patriotism among these students.
