International Competition and Corporate Technology Information Hiding Behavior

本文基于中国加入世界贸易组织这一外生冲击构造双重差分(DID)方法,利用文本分析的方法研究了国际竞争对企业技术信息隐藏行为的影响。研究发现,出口企业比非出口企业在专利申请过程中更加注重对技术信息的保护:在中国加入世界贸易组织(WTO)之后,出口企业在专利申请文书中的特征部分字数会比非出口企业平均下降920.0字;申请文书中附图注释的字图平均会比非出口企业下降703.52字/图。在考虑到可能存在特殊的申请策略和非技术企业可能加快转型的假设后,本文的研究结果同样稳健。研究结果有助于加深企业在现有专利保护机制下的自发保护行为的认识,为进一步优化专利保护制度提供了证据。

Based on China's entry into the WTO,and using Difference-in-Differences(DID)method of exogenous shock construction,this paper uses text analysis to study the impact of international competition on enterprises'technological information hiding behavior.The study found that export companies pay more attention to the protection of technical information in the patent application process than non-export companies:after China's accession to the WTO,the number of characters in the characteristic part of the patent application documents of export companies will drop by 920.0 words on average than non-export companies.The number of characters and images annotated in the drawings in the document will be an average of 703.52 characters per image lower than that of non-exporting companies.After considering that there may be special application strategies and the assumption that non-technical companies may accelerate the transformation,the results of this article are also robust.The research results help to deepen the understanding of enterprises'spontaneous protection behaviors under the existing patent protection mechanism,and provide evidence for further optimizing the patent protection system.
