甲骨文“南”及相关字补说

A Supplementary Research on the Word Nan in Oracle Bone Inscriptions and Other Related Words

本文在已有研究成果的基础上,对甲骨文"南"字的构形理据与本义作了进一步探索。本文认为甲骨文"南"字当是"醯"的本字,本义为肉酱;"南,,字形象有盖"筒形器",盖子上覆有植物;甲骨卜辞常见的贞人名"■"字形象手持勺类器物挹取肉酱,也应读为"南"。据曱骨文"南"字的特殊写法,本文还尝试对西周金文读为"总"的疑难字提出自己的意见。

Based on the existed research results,this article further explores the formation rationale and original meaning of the character nan 南 in oracle bone inscriptions and holds that this character is initially tan 醓,which means meat sauce,with its form symbolizing an image of "tube",equipped with a lid and a plant on it.The character■used in diviners’ names indicates the image of picking up meat sauce with a spoon-like utensil,which should be also read as nan.According to nan’s special writing forms in oracle bone inscription,this article also puts forward opinions on the character read as zong 总 in Western Zhou bronze inscriptions.
