A Dream Under The Southern Bough

淳于棼曾任淮南军裨将,因好酒失宠于主帅,弃官归乡。他的宅院里有一棵古槐树。一天,淳于棼躺在堂前东廊下,忽然觉得有人在呼唤他,原来是槐安国的使者,迎接他去做驸马。数月后,他被任命为槐安国南柯郡太守。任南柯太守的20年中,他施德政,行教化,兴利除弊,使得原先风气颓败、政事废弛的南柯郡,呈现出安宁繁荣的景象。

Chunyu Fen,a low-ranking officer in the Huainan army,resigned and returned home after losing favor with the Commander-in-Chief because of his fondness for alcohol.There was an old sophora tree in his courtyard.One day,he rested on the eastern porch(门廊)in front of the main hall and suddenly he became aware of someone calling him and found an envoy(使者)from the Great Sophora Kingdom(槐安国)fetching him to be married to their princess.Several months later,he was appointed Prefect of the Southern Bough(南柯郡太守)of the Great Sophora.
