英国东印度公司的蒸汽船“阿里阿德涅”号是第一次鸦片战争期间英军舰队中大名鼎鼎的世界上第一艘铁壳蒸汽船“复仇女神”号的姊妹船,同属于英国在1839-1840年间建造的6艘铁壳船之一。1842年,“阿里阿德涅”号作为增援英军舰队的一员到达中国,准备参与英军对上海、南京的作战行动。然而承担勘测航道任务的“阿里阿德涅”号在长江口外触礁船壳破损,被拖回舟山港内修理时最终意外沉没。这是战争期间英国损失的唯一一艘铁壳蒸汽船。

British iron steamship named"Ariadne"was sister ship of the famous"Nemesis",which is the first iron steamship of the world.Both belong to the first 6 iron paddle steamships built by British between 1839-1840."Ariadne"arrived in china as the member of British reinforcement fleet in 1842."Ariadne"was planned to take part in the operations to attack Shanghai and Nanjing.But she got stroked on a rock near the entrance of the Changjiang river then towed to Zhoushan to repair.But she sunken accidently in Zhoushan Harbor."Ariadne"was the only British iron steamship lost in China during the war.
