隋代真腊国的浮胡鱼是大王乌贼,浮胡是音译。唐代人记载海外鹦鹉之名时乐鸟是南印度泰卢固语的鹦鹉ciluka音译,宋代菲律宾南部蒲端国进贡的红鹦鹉是红色吸蜜鹦鹉。来自海外的倒挂鸟是倒悬鹦鹉,罗浮凤是罗斛凤的讹误,来自泰国的罗斛。吴莱记载的是泰国的蓝冠倒悬鹦鹉,苏轼和王世贞记载的很可能是菲律宾倒悬鹦鹉。宋代人记载的鬼蛱蝶是大琉璃纹凤蝶,黑蛱蝶是绿带翠凤蝶,唐代人记载的翠绀缕蝴蝶是绿带翠凤蝶,唐代人记载的南海巨蝴蝶很可能是现在世界上最大的蝴蝶鸟翼凤蝶。
