A brief View on Coastal Defense in the Middle and late Ming Dynasty

本文从明代海防实况、海防思想发展、戚继光的海防方略三个层面展开阐述,分析了明代中后期倭患肆虐、海疆几欲不保的社会原因、政治原因和军事原因。归纳了当时主要的海防观点,再结合抗倭名将戚继光的海防思想、海防实践和海防战绩,试图揭示明代中后期的海防现状和取得抗倭战争全面胜利的原由所在。

This article elaborates from three aspects:the actual situation of coastal defense in the Ming Dynasty,the development of the thought of coastal defense,and Qi Jiguang’s strategy of coastal defense.It analyzes the social,political,and military reasons for the ravages of Japanese pirates in the middle and late Ming Dynasty and the insecurity of maritime borders.It sums up the main viewpoints of coastal defense at that time.Combined with Qi Jiguang’s thought,practice,and achievements of coastal defense,it attempts to reveal the current situation of coastal defense in the middle and late Ming Dynasty and the reasons for the overall victory of the war against Japanese pirates.
