The one-act comedy Trial by Jury premiered at the Royal Theatre in London on March 25, 1875. It was the British dramatist William Schwenck Gilbert’s second collaboration with composer Arthur Sullivan and its success led to the creation of 12 more "G&S" works and gave rise to the term "Savoy Opera."
