Even by the standards of the opera world,Seattle Opera’s general director Christina Scheppelmann is particularly well-traveled(“Three continents,five countries,eight cities,”she exclaims of her former workplaces).And what cities!After cutting her professional teeth in artist management in Milan,the Hamburg native worked briefly at La Fenice in Venice and the Liceu in Barcelona before moving to the United States,where her five-year tenure as artistic administrator of San Francisco Opera coincided with the US debut of Valery Gergiev and that city’s annual residency of his Kirov Opera(as the Mariinsky was then called).For 11 years,she was director of artistic operations for Washington National Opera.
