Zheng Xuan’s Commentary on the Mao Edition of the Shijing and Sentiments of “National History”

郑玄是东汉晚期的经学家。他生当东汉桓灵动荡式微的年代,受到党锢之祸的牵连而潜心著述。《毛诗笺》是他的经学著述,他在其中融注了深沉的时事感愤,彰显出他的国史情怀。此书既可以看作经学名著,也可以视为郑玄"国史"的人格写照,从中可以考见其正直的人格精神与政治理想。

Zheng Xuan was a specialist in classical text studies from the late Eastern Han dynasty.He was born during the turmoil and decline surrounding the period of the Eastern Han emperors Huan and Ling,and devoted himself to writing after he got embroiled in the affair of the prohibition of partisanship.The Commentary on the Mao Edition of the Shijing(Mao Shi jian毛诗笺)is a work of his classical text studies scholarship,and can be looked at as a character sketch belonging to Zheng Xuan's“national history”(guoshi国史),from which one can surmise the integrity of his personality and political thought.
