This article examines governance modernization,political development,and current policy challenges of the United States. What are the key elements of governance modernization? What are the key lessons from the United States in its governance modernization and state building? What is unique about American political development? We use selective case studies to demonstrate governance modernization and American political development. We also examine some current policy challenges facing the United States. Critical analysis of the unique path of American political development and the contemporary policy challenges should help us better understand governance in global perspectives.
