Prior to the use of steam power,China and the Netherlands designed and created their own weatherboards according to their different geographical environments.This article examines whether there was mutual influence between China and the Netherlands during the process of inventing their weatherboards.It further compares Chinese and Western ways of propulsion,especially the use and development of weatherboards on Chinese and Dutch ships.
