Chen Gongpei was one of the founders of the early organizations of the Communist Party China. In the early years,he participated in the Beijing work-study mutual aid group, and later participated in the initiation of the early organization of the Communist Party of China in Shanghai. From August 1920 to October 1921,Chen Gongpei studied under a work-study pro¬gramme in France. He was forced to return to China in November 1921 because he participated in the student movement of the Sino-French University in Lyon.In Shanghai,he,together with Shi Cuntong and Yu Xiusong, participated in the restoration of the Socialist Youth League, and kept in touch with Zhao Shiyan in France, promoting the establishment of the Chinese Youth Communist Party(which was soon changed to the European branch of the Communist Party of China). In the autumn of 1922,Chen Gongpei was appointed by the Party Central Committee to go to Hainan Island to carry out the work of building a Party and Youth League, which laid the foundation for the development of the Party in Hainan.During his work in Hainan,Chen Gongpei changed his mind to military struggle and was admitted to the second phase of the Whampoa Military Academy in 1924.Chen Gongpei is sharp in thought, clear in Love and hate, fluent in writing and strong in social activities. His early revolutionary experience is a microcosm of the arduous exploration of the Chinese Communists, and it is worth studying.
