Parent-infant attachment,especially mother-infant attachment,is the closest and strongest interpersonal relationship,which is predicated on high-quality maternal nurturing care.The existence and quality of attachment are critical to the development of brain structures and functions in infants.High-quality maternal care promotes the development of brain structures and mental functions in infants,while the lack of maternal care produces the opposite effects.This paper introduces the scientific mechanisms underlying the establishment of mother-infant attachment,and explains the importance of maternal nurturing care for structural and functional brain development in infants.
