The Finals*ai and*aiŋin Proto-Northern Min….…Akitani,Hiroyuki(1)Abstract:In addition to*au,there are at least two other finals with*a as their nucleus in the final system of Proto-Northern Min,namely*ai and*aiŋ.The low and back quality of*a comes from the distinctive feature"grave"of the early final consonants*p and*m.There may be*uai in the final system of Proto-Northern Min too.Key words:Proto-Min;phonological history;final;*ai;*aiŋ.
