The article explores the old and new in the transition of industrial ruins from the viewpoint of diachrony.The Lao Ding Feng Beijing Main Office is situated in a dynamic temporal environment.When expressing the temporal suspension,Neri&Hu's design language is consistently precise and clear.The project uses surgical grafting,material contrast,and formal assemblage strategies to speak about the peeling back of layers of time.A temporal reconstruction of the ruins is presented by all the differences between the old and the new.The design adds new meaning to industrial ruins by incorporating"nostalgia"into their diachronic representation,which allows for a deeper understanding of those ordinary ruins that not only take part in the present but also extend into the future.
