Lewis Mumford put forward the concept of organic planning when he talked about medieval towns in the The City in History.Organic planning does not advocate setting goals in advance,but rather akind of"random encounter"planning.Mumford’s organic planning ideas are fully practiced in his report—Whither Honolulu?.Honolulu has a unique natural geographical environment,and the whole city has been lacking reasonable planning,the state of its city is very conducive to the practice of organic planning ideas.The idea of organic planning fuses several key elements:a respect for traditional and historically meaningful forms;suite to local conditions;clear functional orientation;attentiveness to social concerns and the human scale as well as technological innovation.In accordance with his organic principles,he pointed out the planning problems of Honolulu in his report,and put forward far sighted opinions and suggestions on Park and urban planning.
