新西兰和中国于2017年3月签署了共建“一带一路”倡议备忘录,在备忘录签署后不久,驻新西兰新中关系促进委员会就提出,新西兰能够成为中国和南美之间的天然纽带。希望在陆海新通道南端之外,搭建中国通向南美洲和太平洋岛国潜在转运通道,进一步加强中新互联互通倡议中的各种连接。

In March 2017,New Zealand and China signed a Memorandum of Arrangement(MoA)to support the Belt and Road Initiative.Soon after,New Zealand China Council noted that New Zealand could become the natural bond connecting China and South America.It is hoped that beyond the south of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor,a potential transshipment corridor connecting China to South America and Pacific island countries will be built to further strengthen the various connections in Chongqing Connectivity Initiative.
