Wendell Berry is a well-known contemporary American ecopoet, novelist and essayist. A Place on Earth is one of his series of works about Port William.'Place' and'sense of place' are the most important themes in the novel. Firstly, this essay interprets Berry's conception about ideal'place';secondly, this essay analyses three forms of Berry's'sense of place':the love of land, the environmental consciousness to place and the important role of place.
