"美国梦"是美国文学中的一个重要的主题。美国历代作家都记述了人们的寻梦历程。克鲁亚克的小说《在路上》也探索了二战后的年轻人对美国梦的追寻。尤其是以迪安.莫里亚蒂为代表的"垮掉的一代"对新美国梦的追寻和探索。从他们的寻梦历程,我们体会到"垮掉的一代"在精神领域的探索和追求。
American Dream is by no means an important theme in American literature.The pursuing of it by people of different generations is depicted by writers of generations.The novel on the Road explores the American Dream pursuing after WWII.Dean Moriarty,the representative of Beat Generation,is disappointed with the old American Dream,and tries to seek new American Dream.Their pursuing is rather a spiritual quest into the theme of personal freedom and the promise of American Dream.
