China'a traditional English teaching is always based on teachers,but the result is not as ideal as expected.There are more and more English educators who realize the importance of promoting learners'autonomy in accordance with the notions of'lifelong education'and'quality education'.The paper introduces some of the key concepts of learners'autonomy and discusses the necessity of developing learners'autonomy in Chinese-English teaching contexts.It also puts forward some strategies on how to promote learners' autonomy.The employment of the strategies will make the students real autonomy learners and increase their learning efficiency.The paper says,the cultivation of learners'autonomy plays an important part in the reform of English teaching.
