Key Development of Clinical Research on Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

系统性红斑狼疮(SLE)为自身免疫性疾病所引起的一种慢性炎症状态,现代医学以皮质激素联合多种免疫抑制剂治疗为主,但疗效并不理想,有许多患者使用该类药物治疗副作用严重。中医药则侧重于整体调节,对于重建免疫功能自稳状态有良好的作用,协同应用还可减少激素的副作用、增强临床疗效,有广阔的前景。

Systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by production of auto-antibodies against different auto-antigens, and systemic inflammatory reaction. Despite the improved treatment over the past decades, glucocorticoids remain as a first line medicine. Considering the significant morbidity derived from drug complications, new therapeutic strategy for SLE is urgently needed. This review offers a general overview of developing a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) based method in SLE treatment. A systemic regulated immunological function, a blockage of inflammation signal pathways, a diminished severe side effect by glucocorticoids, and a significant improved long-term survival and quality of life all appears to be bright attractive points of this newly proposed therapeutic strategy.
