1976年这一年对于穆旦充满了特殊的意义,作为一个身处“文革”漩涡中的历史见证人,他不仅是苦难时代依然保持诘问的诗人,同时还担当了一个孤独的寓言家的角色。而诗人身份向翻译家身份的转变则体现了穆旦于时代漩流中以一个人文科学工作者的姿态重新抵抗压制,在万马齐喑中寻找新的表达途径的努力。在这一年的诗歌里充满了他对整个时代所作的思想和人格的双重批判,也显示出绚烂与沧桑之后复归于平静从容的个人风格,表现了一个智者在目睹了声势浩大的造神运动之后的苦涩、深沉与洞察力。
