首先举例介绍了省略现象的定义、分类和功能,然后通过对《呐喊》和Of Study的原文及译文中出现的省略现象进行数据对比、举例分析、汇总得出汉语多名词性省略,通常不省略实义动词、操作词,英语多动词性省略,常承前省略相同的谓语动词或部分为与动词词组,并可以省略不定式标记后的动词。最后联系中西方文化分析探求汉英语省略之异同的其认知理据。
