糯玉米亦称蜡质玉米或中国糯玉米,中国是糯玉米世界起源中心.中国的云贵川高地糯玉米遗传多样性分布,沪与杭嘉湖平原的遗传特点是优质早熟,黄河流域及东北地区糯玉米植株高大、产量高.在对中国糯玉米种质研究创新基础上,中国糯玉米杂交化改良得到较大成功,已形成鲜食、淀粉加工和畜牧新型糯质饲料三个发展方向.

Waxy corn,also being called Chinese glutitous corn,was originally produced in China and mainly distributed in the upper reachese of the Yangtze river in China including Yunnan,Guizhou,Guangxi and the plain regions fo the lower reaches including Shanghai,Hangzhou and Huzhou.At the basis of germplasm improvement,breeding of hybridization develop sucessfully in China.The industry of waxy corn develop in three ways,i.e.fresh-eating,starch machining and new waxy feedstuff.
