摘要
本文采用语料库的研究方法,对比分析了中国非英语专业学习者与英语本族语学生在情态动词使用情况上的差异,同时也考察了不同水平英语学习者在这方面的异同.结果表明,中国英语学习者总体上过多使用情态动词,但就某些情态动词而言,过少使用的情况也存在.另外,较高水平英语学习者使用情态动词的情况总体上更为接近英语本族语学生.
The present article reports on a contrastive corpus-based study of the use of modal verbs in compositions by Chinese non-English major college students and native English-speaking university students.It aims to uncover non-native features in the use of modal verbs in EFL learners' compositions.It also investigates in what ways learners at different English proficiency levels differ from each other in terms of their use of modal verbs.The results show that Chinese EFL learners generally overuse the category of modal verbs.It is also found that learners at two different proficiency levels share considerable similarity and that students with a higher proficiency level use modal verbs in a way closer to their native counterparts.
