卡夫卡是一位怪诞的小说家,他一生从未到过中国,在他笔下却详细描绘了中国万里长城的建造及其庞大的帝国。在《中国长城建造时》中,残缺的长城、专制的帝国、愚昧的百姓都成为他以及西方人眼中的文化“他者”——东方文明,而这个“他者”的出现是以“非我”的形式对“自我”的映射,对中华帝国的想象实质是指涉卡夫卡时代的奥匈帝国。这一特殊题材的小说和他的其他作品共同构成卡夫卡式的精神困境。

Kafka is a Weird novelist.He described the Great Wall of China and the great empire in that time concretely even though he had never been to China.In his novel When the Great Wall of China is Built,the imperfect Great Wall,auto- cratic empire and ignorant people are the culture“he person”——Estern civilization,in his and other westerners'eyes.This kind of“he person”is a reflection to“myself”from“not myself”and imagination of the empire in that time.The nature is to describe the Austria-hungary in his period.This kind of special novel written by Kafka and his other novels form the spiritual predicament of Kafka.
