During the Ming Dynasty, the Government adopted the policy of permeating and strengthening patriarchal relations as well as emphasizing the ethics based on the patriarchal clan system among the common people. Drawing on the religion-related materials found in literary works in Huizhou and other districts, this paper discusses the above-mentioned policy and its influence on the common people as a result of its infiltration, i.e. how the policy altered people's conscious behavior towards religious things, particularly towards temples or monks, in the Ming-Qing period.
