On Yan Fu's Thinking of Physical Education

严复作为中国近代启蒙思想家 ,主张通过发展教育改造整个国民性 ,塑造优秀的种族来挽救中国 ,他揭示了鼓民力、重体育对强种保国的必要性 ,开创了中国体育的新纪元 ;探讨了严复体育思想及其启蒙价值 :开启研究体育之先河 ,促进学校体育的形成 。

As an important enlightenment thinker in neoteric China, Yan Fu advocated transforming the whole nationality by education and saving the country by creating a superior race. He revealed that it was the essential way for high-class race and prosperous country to strengthen the people's constitution and think highly of PE, and he inaugurated a new era of physical culture in China. This paper studies Yan Fu's conception of PE and its significance from the angle of enlightenment.
